Frequently Asked Questions

Lore Questions

  • Can human brains be transplanted into Synth/Robot bodies?

    • No. Though rare, it is possible for human brains to be transplanted into Echo bodies. Mental degradation comes as a possible side effect. â€‹â€‹

  • Can I play Synth Animal?

    • No. There are no synthetic animals. All animals are organic and non-speaking. Read more on the Animals page.

  • Can Synths switch bodies on their own without the help of another character? How are they awakened? Can someone awaken my Synth?

    • No, Synths cannot switch chassis without the help of another. Synths are usually awakened after experiencing a traumatic event. No, there is no way to force an awakening otherwise, but there is one exception to be announced.

  • What are the rules regarding "re-sleeves" and "chassis transfers" during consciousness/mind transfers?

    • Humans and Variants have the option to "re-sleeve" in the event significant damage is dealt to their bodies. This is facilitated by transferring the brain along with both the central and peripheral nervous systems into a new donor body that is genetically similar to their own. The process is extremely complicated, expensive, and can only be accomplished in a proper medical setting with qualified professionals. Recovery time takes no less than a week and one can expect side effects such as memory loss and nerve damage. There have also been reports of psychosis.

    • Synths have the option to "backup" their programming to then be downloaded into a new body, or "chassis". This process is much easier and less involved than re-sleeves, but there are still side effects. Degradation often comes as a consequences to these transfers and Synths will experience faulty operation as a result. They may randomly power on and off, twitch, and act differently than what their original programming determined. Awakened Synths will face memory loss in addition to the array of what un-awakened Synths experience after their transfers. They too may suffer some form of psychosis. Boot up time takes no less than three or four days for both Awakened and un-awakened Synths.

Policy Questions

  • Can I have a faction base for my player faction?

    • District 18 welcomes players to create and lead approved player factions. However, District 18 cannot provide every faction a special base for themselves for reasons of fairness as well as prim count. Sim recognized factions and businesses come first and we are still in the process of building bases and business fronts for them. If you wish to see an addition to the build, then you may contact the sim owner to discuss such additions, but that does not guarantee that you will be overseeing said addition when and if the idea comes to fruition.

Miscellaneous Questions

  • How do I know when a rental is available?

    • The rental boards are in a small adjacent room next to the HUB landing. A green box indicates that a rental is available while black, grey, and gold boxes indicate that the rental is unavailable. Clicking on an unavailable box will make a blue dialog prompt pop up in the upper right hand corner of your viewer. Click "Notify Me" and proceed through the prompts as desired. Now, all you need to do is wait to receive a message in-world or through your email. You will not know which is available until you teleport to the rental wall and see a green box. You must be quick to grab a rental.
